ORF to JPG Converter

ORF is what Olympus and OM System cameras write. Convert to JPG here — decoded in your browser, never uploaded.

ORF (Olympus RAW Format) comes from the Micro Four Thirds line: the OM-D E-M1, E-M5 and E-M10 families, the PEN bodies, and the OM System OM-1 and OM-5. Olympus sold its imaging division in 2021 and the brand became OM System, but the file extension never changed — an OM-1 writes .ORF exactly as an E-M1 did, which is why searching by brand name can be confusing. Micro Four Thirds sensors are smaller and typically 12-bit, so ORF files are meaningfully lighter than full-frame raw: 15—20 MB rather than 40—80. The exception is High Res Shot, which composites several sensor-shifted exposures into a much larger file.

The decode runs in your browser with a WebAssembly RAW engine and the embedded preview as a fallback, so nothing is uploaded and there's no daily limit. Panasonic RW2 and Fujifilm RAF have their own converters, and RAW to JPG handles a mixed folder.

Best for

  • Getting shareable JPGs off an OM-D or PEN card
  • Opening ORF files without installing OM Workspace
  • Converting a travel shoot in bulk on a laptop

Good to know

High Res Shot files are much larger than standard ORF frames and are the most likely to fall back to the embedded preview. That preview is full resolution for a normal frame, but for a High Res composite it may reflect the standard-resolution render.

Frequently asked questions

Both. Olympus sold its camera division in 2021 and the brand is now OM System, but the raw format and its .ORF extension carried over unchanged. Files from an OM-1 and from a ten-year-old E-M5 use the same extension.

Micro Four Thirds sensors are physically smaller and generally record 12-bit rather than 14-bit data, so there's simply less to store. A typical ORF is 15–20 MB against 40–80 MB for a high-resolution full-frame raw.

Those files are considerably larger, since the camera composites several sensor-shifted exposures. Most convert normally; where a full decode isn't possible the converter falls back to the embedded preview rather than failing.
