Zamzar Alternative
Zamzar uploads files and historically gates the free tier tightly (around 2 files/day, sometimes via email). File Converts converts instantly in your browser — nothing uploaded, no email, and unlimited free for in-browser tools.

What Zamzar is
Zamzar is the oldest name here. It launched in 2006, long before browsers could convert anything on their own, and its original model was that you emailed a file in and received a download link back. That heritage still shapes the product: it is built around a server round-trip because when it was designed there was no other option.
Where Zamzar wins
Format coverage accumulated over nearly two decades, including legacy and effectively obsolete formats that newer converters never bothered to implement. If you have a file produced by software that no longer exists, Zamzar is a genuinely good bet and we may simply not open it.
The actual trade-off
Its free allowance is the most restrictive in this comparison — a small number of files per day. That is not stinginess. It is the honest running cost of performing every single conversion on hardware someone else has to pay for.
Choose Zamzar if
You have an obscure or legacy format, or a conversion that no browser implementation exists for.
Choose File Converts if
You convert files regularly. A daily file allowance is the binding constraint for most people, and conversion that runs on your own device does not have one.
