MP3 to WAV Converter
Convert MP3 files to WAV instantly and privately. File Converts runs entirely in your browser, so your MP3 is never uploaded to any server.
Uncompressed and lossless. Large files; best for editing.
Works offline after you have used it once: the engine downloads the first time and is kept. About 30 MB, once.
This conversion runs the other way, and it is worth being clear about what it does and does not do. Decoding an MP3 to WAV gives you uncompressed audio that any editor, DAW or piece of broadcast software will accept without re-encoding — but it does not restore quality. The detail MP3 discarded is gone, and the WAV simply stores the degraded signal at full size.
So this is the right step before editing, mastering or feeding audio into software that demands PCM, and the wrong step if you were hoping to improve a low-bitrate file. A 128 kbps MP3 decoded to WAV is a 128 kbps-quality recording occupying about ten times the space.
The useful property is that editing in WAV avoids stacking generations: decode once, do all your work, and encode back to a lossy format only at the end. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Best for
- Importing audio into editing software that requires uncompressed WAV
- Preparing a track for mastering or further processing
- Feeding a device or system that only accepts WAV
Good to know
WAV is uncompressed, so the file will be much larger than the MP3, and converting cannot restore detail that MP3 compression already removed. Use WAV when a tool specifically requires it; keep MP3 for sharing and storage.
