MOV to MP4 Converter

Convert MOV files to MP4 instantly and privately. File Converts runs entirely in your browser, so your MOV is never uploaded to any server.

No upload Instant Free
Runs in your browser via WebAssembly — your media is never uploaded. The FFmpeg engine (~30MB) downloads once on first use, so the first conversion takes a little longer.

Works offline after you have used it once: the engine downloads the first time and is kept. About 30 MB, once.

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container, and it is what an iPhone or a Mac produces by default. Structurally it is very close to MP4 — both descend from the same specification — which is why this conversion is usually the cheapest one here.

In most cases the video track is already H.264 or HEVC, so converting is a remux rather than a re-encode: the existing track is copied into an MP4 wrapper untouched. Nothing is recompressed, no quality is lost, and it finishes far faster than compressing would. The exception is footage shot in HEVC being sent somewhere that only accepts H.264, which does require a real re-encode.

The usual reason to do this at all is a destination that checks the extension: Windows software, editing suites, upload forms and Android devices that will happily play the same bytes labelled .mp4 and refuse them labelled .mov. Conversion runs in your browser through FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your footage is never uploaded.

Best for

  • Making an iPhone MOV video play on Windows, Android, or older players
  • Uploading to a site or app that rejects MOV but accepts MP4
  • Standardising a QuickTime clip into a widely-shareable format

Good to know

Converts QuickTime MOV to widely-compatible MP4 (H.264). It runs on your device via FFmpeg (WebAssembly, ~30 MB), which downloads once on first use and is then cached — so the first conversion is slower to start. Large or long videos are limited by your device's memory.

Frequently asked questions

MOV is Apple's QuickTime format, and many Windows apps, Android devices, and websites don't support it. Converting to MP4 (H.264) makes it play virtually everywhere.

Yes — the video is re-encoded to MP4 at comparable quality. As with any re-encode a little detail changes, but it isn't visible in normal viewing.

No. The conversion runs in your browser with FFmpeg, so the video never leaves your device — it even works offline once the page has loaded.

The ~30 MB FFmpeg engine downloads once on first use and then stays cached, so the first conversion is slow to start and every one after it is quick.
