Spreadsheets travel badly. Column widths shift, formulas recalculate, and the recipient can change the numbers. A PDF freezes the sheet exactly as you approved it — which is why invoices, quotes and reports are sent this way.
The conversion runs on the File Converts server using a real spreadsheet engine, because laying out a workbook correctly means evaluating formulas, honouring print areas, page breaks, frozen panes, number formats and conditional formatting. A browser library can read cell values; it cannot reproduce Excel's pagination, and a report that breaks across pages in the wrong place is worse than no PDF at all.
