ARW (Sony Alpha RAW) comes off the whole Alpha line — the A7 III, A7 IV and A7R V, the A1, the A9 series, the A6000 through A6700 crop bodies, the RX100 compacts and the FX30. Sony gives you a choice of compression, and it matters more here than on other systems: for years the only option was a lossy compressed raw using an 11+7-bit delta scheme, which could leave visible posterisation along very high-contrast edges — the classic example being a bright branch against a blank sky. Lossless compressed arrived on the A1 and A7 IV and is now the sensible default.
Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop reads all of it but is a heavy install. File Converts decodes ARW in your browser with a WebAssembly build of LibRaw, falling back to the embedded preview when needed, so the files stay on your device. Shooting other brands too? NEF, CR3 and DNG have their own converters, and RAW to JPG takes a mixed folder.

Good to know
If a particular ARW can't be fully demosaiced, the converter falls back to the full-size JPEG preview Sony embeds in the file. That's a complete image at full resolution, but it carries the Creative Style that was set on the camera.
