You can extract a page, a range, or split into separate files. Splitting keeps the original page content intact — it doesn't reduce quality or re-encode pages.
How to write a page range
The range field takes page numbers and ranges separated by commas: 1-3, 5, 8-10 gives you pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. Spaces do not matter, and a range written backwards, such as 10-8, is read as 8 to 10. Numbers past the last page are skipped rather than causing an error, so 1-999 on a 40-page file simply means every page.
There is no shorthand for "to the end". 5- or 5-end will not work, so type the last page number. If nothing in the field turns out to be a usable page, the tool says so and asks for a valid range rather than producing an empty file.
Pages come out in the order you type them
Range mode copies pages in the order you list them, not in the document's order. Typing 5, 1-3 gives you a file that starts with page 5, followed by pages 1, 2 and 3. That is handy when you need to pull the signature page to the front, or put an appendix before the section it supports.

Pick pages by clicking thumbnails
Once a PDF is loaded, its pages appear as thumbnails under the controls. Clicking one adds it to the range or removes it, and the range field updates as you click. The two stay in sync both ways, so you can click roughly and then tidy the field by hand, or type a range and check the thumbnails to see what you picked.
Thumbnails stop after the first 200 pages, because a long book does not need them. Past that point, type the page numbers. If the preview cannot be drawn at all, which happens with damaged or password-protected files, the range field still works.
One file of chosen pages, or every page on its own
Page range makes a single PDF of the pages you chose, named after your file with -pages added. Every page → ZIP makes one PDF per page and packs them into a ZIP. Inside it the files are named page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf and so on. The numbers are not zero-padded, so some file managers will list page-10 before page-2.
To break a document into several chunks, such as pages 1-5 as one file and 6-10 as another, run Page range once for each chunk. After a range split, the result can go straight into another tool, such as Merge PDF or Organize PDF, without downloading it and choosing it again. The ZIP from every-page mode cannot be passed on, because no other tool takes a ZIP of PDFs.
What the split pages keep
Each page is copied with its content as it was, so text stays selectable and images are not re-encoded. What does not come along is anything that belongs to the whole document: bookmarks, and the original's title and author. The new file is a fresh document that holds only the pages you picked.
A split file can be larger than its share of the pages would suggest. Fonts and images that the original shared across many pages are copied in full with each page that uses them. This shows most in every-page mode, where each one-page PDF carries its own copy.
What to do when splitting fails
If the tool says it couldn't process the PDF and mentions encryption, the file is protected. That includes PDFs that open without a password but carry restrictions. Remove the protection with Unlock PDF (you will need the password) and split the unlocked copy. If it asks you to choose a PDF, the file does not end in .pdf. Check that it really is a PDF and rename it if it has lost its extension.
There is no fixed size cap here. The whole document is read into memory, so the limit is your device. If a very large file makes the tab slow or reload, try a desktop browser, or split it into a few big ranges first and work on those.
