PostScript files turn up in print workflows, academic publishing and older graphics pipelines, and almost nothing on a modern machine opens one. Converting to PNG gives you an image any viewer, document or website will accept.
PostScript is a programming language, not an image format — a .ps file is a program whose output is a page. Rasterising it means executing that program, which is what Ghostscript does. Ghostscript is licensed under the AGPL, so it belongs on a server rather than in a bundle shipped to your browser; that licence, not a technical limit, is why this tool uploads.
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, rendered, returned, and then deleted, with uploads capped at 100 MB on the free tier (1 GB on Pro, 2 GB on Team). PNG is lossless, so the raster you get back is exactly what Ghostscript produced. Multi-page PostScript renders the pages it contains; if you need vector output that stays scalable, keep the original .ps or .eps rather than the PNG.
